Broken A/C makes me think about changing career fields

Working in food service makes you realize just how stupid a lot of people are.

I swear, you would not know how dumb people are until you work in food service.

There are vegans ordering sandwiches with mayonnaise, lactose intolerant people ordering cheesecake, and people who claim a gluten intolerance who keep asking for more bread: the list goes on and on. If I try to inform these idiots that they about their contradictory choices, they get mad at me. People are difficult to deal with on good days but they are terrible when there is an actual issue. Take last week for example, the air conditioner stopped working in our restaurant. My manager called out an HVAC company but it took some time for them to get to the restaurant. In the meantime we had to work without proper air conditioning and many of the customers complained and wanted discounts on their food. At first my manager gave some people discounts but then we started informing everyone about the broken air conditioner before we even seated them. A couple people left but many stayed and then demanded discounts even though they chose to stay in and eat with no air conditioning. I found that really annoying. Worst of all, they act like it’s my personal fault and so I got almost no tips that day. Of course, when the air conditioner was working once again, no one offered to pay extra for their food. Shouldn’t it go both ways? I’m really tired of working in food service. It might be time to find a job where I don’t have to see the general public at all.
