Use Common Sense When Using a Space Heater in Your Home

Space furnaces are really only intended to bump up the heat a few degrees anyway, and you shouldn’t be using them instead of an actual furnace

Most people have at least one space furnace in your house. Despite the fact that space furnaces cause home fires and electrical problems every year, people still continue to use space furnaces to supplement the central heating when the days are brutally cold. There is nothing wrong with getting a space heater, but the best course of action while heating your home is to use the central heating system that eliminates the need for a space heater. However, if you find yourself needing a space heater, there are a few things that you can do to make your space furnace as safe as possible. First of all, don’t turn the space heater up as high as it will go. Although almost all space furnaces have a 1500w setting, most space furnaces and outlets are not really good for this much electricity. Space heaters often have cheaper power cords, people overload their receptacles, and plastic plugs are common, so most home fires are caused by turning on the space furnace to the warmest setting. Regardless of the thermostat setting you choose, you should never have space furnaces on while you are away from home or sleeping. Space furnaces can cause fires, and you should only use them while you are fully able to supervise them. Space furnaces are really only intended to bump up the heat a few degrees anyway, and you shouldn’t be using them instead of an actual furnace. Finally, make sure that your space furnace is not close to loose flammable items such as blankets or drapes. This may seem like common sense, but the number of home fires caused by space furnaces being placed right next to the curtains just goes to show you that people are not careful enough.
