Trash smell flows through the ductwork

I think an air purification system might be the answer

I have a central HVAC system and a garage that is connected to the house. I remembering making the decision to have the HVAC and air ducts extend to the garage. It made sense at the time. I wanted to have heating in the garage for winter. That way my husband can work on his car and our vehicles will be warm when we jump in them for work. I also can work out in the garage over summer and have quality cooling. Well I did not take into consideration that the garage is naturally a smelly place and that the ductwork carries odors. The trash reeks in our garage. It does not matter if I cover it and use scented bags. Since garbage pick up is every 2 weeks, our trash gets to ferment. That gross garbage smell wafts up into the air vent in the garage. The smell then moves with the ductwork. The HVAC turns on and the smelly air moves around the house room to room. Sometimes I can smell our garbage when I cook dinner, go to bed or even take a shower. It is just horrible. Fixing the trash has not worked. So I think I need to tackle the smell and ductwork. My husband says we should just close off the ductwork so the smell can’t leak in the house. I think an air purification system might be the answer. I could have the air cleaner installed right into the heater and ac system. As the HVAC works, so does the air purifier. The air would be cleaned as it moves around the house.
