As soon as my husband and I got married, we moved into an apartment together. We lived in the same apartment for 3 years, saving as much money as we could so we could buy a home together. We hated renting, because we were throwing money away for something we’d never own. However, we knew we couldn’t afford to buy a house right away, and we wanted to save enough money for a downpayment. We didn’t enjoy paying rent, but we also didn’t want to go into serious debt, especially so early into our marriage. When we finally moved into our first home together, it took weeks to move our belongings in. We had acquired more stuff than we needed, and it took forever to purge what wasn’t wanted anymore. It wasn’t until we moved into a home that I realized something about my husband. He isn’t very handy. I asked him to hang a few photos for me, and it took hours. We also have a dozen little holes in the wall from the miscalculations he made along the way. When our AC system started giving us trouble, I panicked because I didn’t want to tell my husband. I feared he would try and fix it on his own and make the situation worse. I was almost certain it was the air filter that was causing the issues, so I took matters into my own hands. While my husband was out, I went to the hardware store and purchased a new air filter. After I replaced it, I noticed our AC system working more efficiently, so I knew that was the true problem. I’m going to have to keep up with our HVAC system so my husband doesn’t have to now.
