It was my house and my rules.

My daughter and her boyfriend moved into my house with us this week.

The first thing that I did was to set the boyfriend straight.

I told him that it was my house and my rules. My daughter was telling how when they were little, I told them he was the king of the house. I wasn’t very happy with her, because she was making a joke of my house and my rules. I told her mother about this later and she told me to lighten up. I didn’t like my daughter moving in with her boyfriend. I thought they should be married. My wife assured me they were engaged, and I didn’t need to worry about it. After a month, I started accepting the boyfriend. He was pretty cool with most of my rules and he pitched in and helped out around the house. He was working in the yard with me, and he even gave us money to help out with groceries. I told him to save his rent so he could get his own apartment. About two months after they moved in, I began having some problems with the HVAC system. I had no idea what was going on and I was going to call the HVAC company. My daughter told me to ask her boyfriend about the HVAC. He was in school, working toward his certification in HVAC repair and installation. This was news to me and I suddenly had a new respect for my future son-in-law. Who would have guessed he was going to be an HVAC technician someday?
