Trying to workout while traveling

The rooms are typically small and I’d rather not get down on the disgusting carpets for ab crunches or planks

Every summer, my husband and I take a lengthy motorcycle trip across the country. We devote anywhere from a couple of weeks to several months touring different areas on the Harley Davidson. We stay away from the major highways and utilize the back roads. This way, we enjoy a better view of the different scenery. It’s always an eye opening and fun trip for us. However, there are some challenges. Traveling by motorcycle leaves us at the mercy of the weather conditions. We suffer through high heat, humidity, rain, wind and cold weather. After a long day on the bike, my husband and I are always ready to stop at a hotel for the night. We switch between renting a nicer hotel with all sorts of amenities to the more basic and economical accommodations. Since physical fitness is a priority for me, the nicer hotels are way more convenient. These places usually include a fitness center where I can get my workout. I wake up several hours before my husband in order to take advantage of the workout machines provided by the hotel. Sometimes these workout areas are really well equipped, offering everything from yoga mats and weight benches to ellipticals, treadmills and various types of bikes. Some of them only include a couple of basic machines and just enough room to complete a decent stretch. It’s a challenge when we rent a hotel that doesn’t offer a fitness center. If we are in a safe location, away from major highways, I will typically go for a run. There have been a few times when I’ve had no option but to either workout inside the hotel room or in the parking lot. This situation is not the best and people look at me strangely. The rooms are typically small and I’d rather not get down on the disgusting carpets for ab crunches or planks. I always set down a towel first.
