It’s hard to say if we should get a coffee table or not

Ok interior designers on the internet (or people who just happen to be great decorators) I need your assistance! I desperately need your assistance.

I am trying to create the perfect “look” in our dwelling plus I’m not sure what I should do.

Some background, my fiance plus I recently moved into a current dwelling plus we really care about it. We have been decorating slowly plus everything is starting to come together. We have been decorating the living room section and, piece by piece, we have been getting the furniture where we really prefer it. The living room section is a rather open area and, while our custom furniture looks beautiful in that room, it is entirely spacious. The area in front of the couch over to the sectional is kind of empty. I thought a rug would look great but I didn’t like it when I put down a towel for a visual. I am considering adding a coffee table in front of the custom couch, however I’m not actually sure if that’s a smart move. I don’t want the coffee table to have the appearance of floating in the middle of the floor. On the other hand, I feel as though the floor system might be a little too open without at least a coffee table to easily break up the space. Then again, I sort of enjoy the open look plus don’t want to spoil the flow of the dwelling by adding a coffee table where it doesn’t truly belong. Do you see our predicament? Well, that’s why I’m here. Coffee table or no coffee table? Let myself and others hear your thoughts!
