Wanting to work in HVAC

My dad was an Heating and A/C specialist for over 30 years before he retired! He became certified right after he graduated middle school, landed a task in town, and never left.

  • After 15 years of business, he accepted a promotion to part owner! For as long as I can remember, my dad was known as the Heating and A/C handyman in our town.

Whenever we’d drive around, my dad would point out all the homes he ran tests on in the past… Periodically, if I was lucky, he’d tell me stories about the people who lived in the homes or what secrets they had hiding under their roofs. I grew to admire him and his Heating and A/C knowledge, and it didn’t take long for me to follow his footsteps. Once I graduated middle school myself, I enrolled at the local technical school for my Heating and A/C certification. My dad was so proud when I told him my plans! Not only did he help me with my schoolwork, but he let me intern for him at his office. I started by reading the business side of things, because he felt this was the most important. Since I wasn’t getting a degree in business, I needed to assume how to run things with him. It was boring work, but I picked up on it quickly. I was most excited to ac supplier him on lake house calls and roll my sleeves up! By the time I graduated with my certification as an Heating and A/C specialist, my dad was ready to retire and sell me his half of the supplier. Now, I’m the Heating and A/C handyman in town, and I’m proud to follow my dad’s footsteps.
