I am leaving my flat soon and heading to a rustic cabin which has only a fireplace to keep us all warm.
I may not get so much sleep up there because I will probably be too cold at night to sleep.
But it should be a fun trip anyways and I know I will start missing my eclectic climate control system, which can be turned on at the flick of a switch. That is a much easier way of keeping warm as opposed to chopping wood and making a fire in a fireplace, but sometimes it is fun to rough it for a bit so that you appreciate what you have when you come back to your normal life of luxury. We have it pretty good nowadays with smart thermostats and zone control heating and cooling, compared to years ago where we only had fires in winter and maybe a fan in the summer to stay comfortable. Before electricity I don’t know how people slept at night, especially in the south during summertime when the temps would be 90F or more at night. I could not sleep in a bedroom without some kind of air conditioning or moving air during summer, and I would love to see how people did it a long time ago. Maybe they just tossed and turned all night and thought that life is supposed to be like that, but now moving ahead into the future we see that we can be quite cozy all the time in our modern homes. Life has really come a long way with technology.
