Learning to fall safely

I started out just holding my body in planks.

This may sound odd, but I am learning how to fall properly. My husband and I could not be more different. He is a personal trainer who works out everyday and does work out at his job. I am a superintendent that works in a school all day long. I don’t work out and I eat whatever is handy. He is appalled that I don’t want to work out or watch what I eat. For years he was hounding me to do some form of physical activity. I hate to say it, but he was right. The last superintendent conference I went to I was in the shower of my hotel room and got dizzy. I ended up falling down and really mangling myself. I had to go to the hospital since I ruptured my spleen. A few months later I fell in my own bathroom and knocked my head on the counter. My husband finally intervened and said that I needed to learn proper falling. I realized that I can’t fall and catch my body weight. Not only do I lack the upper body strength, but I am overweight and too heavy. I decided to allow my husband to get me into shape. He has me doing push ups, core heavy exercises and a lot of cardio. I started out just holding my body in planks. Now I fall from a kneeling position to catching my body. My goal is to be able to free fall and catch in a push up. If I could do that, I would not have hurt myself so badly this past year.
