Ten years ago, I finally had enough money to build the house of my dreams.
I was so excited about my new house. I had spent years living in a dump of a house, and I wanted to make sure that my house was perfect. One of the worst parts of my old house was the HVAC units. First of all, we had absolutely no central air conditioner. We had a few window air conditioners in the house, but we didn’t want to use too many window air conditioners, because that can become very expensive. Rather than having a central air conditioner installed in our old house, we decided to wait until we built our new house. Also, we had an unreliable furnace, so we decided to install radiant heated flooring in our new house. There was a certain HVAC company that did all of that work on our new house, and we were very excited about their work. However, when I decided to change my thermostat this year, I realized that the HVAC technicians decided to take shortcuts in their work. I wanted to install one of those new learning thermostats that you can control remotely and that learns your HVAC preferences. However, when I went to install the thermostat, I quickly learned that they didn’t follow the color-coding when wiring the thermostat. Instead of a quick job, I had to rewire a ton of it so that I didn’t fry my thermostat. That hassle could have been completely avoided.
