Winter prep means taking care of the air conditioner too

It’s actually nice to kick back this weekend.

Not only is that because we just enjoyed a giant Thanksgiving feast, but I’m also through with the winter preparations. I always try to zero in on Thanksgiving as the sort of deadline to have all my winter prep done. So this weekend, I’m celebrating that fact by enjoying all sorts leftovers while getting my first all day football Saturday. For the last several months, much of my Saturdays have been given over to getting the house and the HVAC equipment ready for winter. This is a routine that I do each year and it actually starts in the summer. This is when I cut wood and section it up so it can dry out. Then I spend the late summer and most of fall splitting and stacking the wood. We have a great gas furnace that generates all the HVAC heating we need. But having the wood stove really reduces the cost of HVAC heating during our long, cold winter. Plus, the wood stove is there if there is a power outage due to a big snow storm which you can count on at least once per year. In there, I also have the HVAC technician come out to do the heating maintenance. This ensures that the gas furnace is at its most efficient and lessens the odds that we suffer a breakdown considerably. The capper, which I completed last weekend, is securing that molded plastic cover over the air conditioner cabinet outside. This is the final touch to my winter preparations and keeps the weight of snow and ice off the HVAC components.
