When I was in high school, there was a nerdy guy named Jack that always wanted me to go on a date with him.
I wasn’t particularly interested in Jack.
He was good-looking and smart, but I didn’t have anything in common with the guy. When we were seniors in high school, Jack wanted me to go to the prom. I already had a date and I had to let the guy down gently. I know it was really difficult to ask knowing that I probably would say no. I always had a soft spot for the guy, but I wasn’t particularly attracted to him. I never saw Jack again until a couple of months ago. I had to contact an HVAC repair service for work on the furnace in my home. I called a brand new repair service that was new to the area. They had pretty good reviews considering the fact that they were new to the area. The owner answered the phone and took all of my information. His voice sounded strangely familiar. When the repair technician showed up on my front door, I immediately recognized his face. It was Jack, the nerd from high school. The guy owns his own business now. He is the owner of the HVAC repair service. Jack and I talked about high school and the good old days while he was repairing the furnace. I actually thought the guy might ask me out again, but he never did. Now that we are adults and different people, I think I would have said yes.
