Sun can cause issues with the thermostat

I figured that there was something wrong with the new thermostat, and so I had another one sent out, and returned the other one.

Something I wish I had known before I went out and wasted my money, was the fact that the sun can actually have an impact on how your thermostat functions. During a particularly fantastic spring, I kept all my windows open to let the sunshine in and the fresh breeze. Soon after, I noticed my thermostat started having issues. The issues it started having was giving false readings as well as heating and cooling at odd hours. I didn’t connect the dots, and figured that my thermostat must be messing up. So I went online and bought a brand new thermostat to replace my old one with. I was able to install the brand new smart thermostat myself with no trouble, however, I noticed the smart thermostat didn’t change anything, and I continued to suffer from heating and air conditioning abnormalities. I figured that there was something wrong with the new thermostat, and so I had another one sent out, and returned the other one. But after the other new one started doing the same thing, I knew something else was wrong. It was then I called a heating and A/C specialist out, and he told me point blank that it wasn’t the thermostat, it was the sun. After the thermostat was moved out of the way of the sun’s rays, the issues cleared up and I didn’t have any more HVAC related issues. Now I wish I had known all of this before I wasted my time and money on a new thermostat that I didn’t even need.
