Weird smell when the A/C unit is on

Lately, I noticed there was a weird smell in my home.

At first it didn’t bother me, until it continued to last longer than a few hours.

I tried to find the source of the smell, but I really couldn’t track it. It seemed like it was coming from everywhere and nowhere at once. I eventually gave up and instead used air freshener to spray around the home. They worked for a while, and then by the time the air freshener faded, the smell was gone. I thought that was the end of it, but then the next day came and the smell was back again! What was causing this smell? I repeated the same steps, and the smell faded once more. Once again, when the next day came, the smell was back. However, I noticed something this time. I noticed that the smell appeared after the A/C unit kicked on. The air conditioner was programmed to turn on right now, and so I had to force it to turn off in order to see if the smell disappeared. Sure enough, it did. Now it was beginning to make sense. The HVAC machine was only programmed to run a few hours a day, so by the time the air freshener faded, the HVAC device would have turned itself off. I had to have a HVAC professional come out and find the problem, apparently there was an animal nest and droppings in there that was removed. Afterwards, the smell was gone for good.
