I live in an area that is prone to getting hurricanes every year.
In fact, we have already gotten our first named storm of the season.
It caused a bit of flooding, but no real damage, so we were grateful for that. When we have storms no matter if they are small tropical ones or hurricanes, there is always a frenzy here. People are always scrambling to get last minute supplies. The stores are always crowded and the lines at the gas stations are usually ridiculous. By now, I am not sure why we have not gotten used to planning ahead. A few years ago, we were hit with a massive hurricane and it knocked out my power for about a week. It was in the early part of September, so the weather was still a bit hot. After a day of having no air conditioning, I made a decision to go to a hotel. Luckily, I was able to get a hotel at the last minute that had no interruption in their service. This means they had air conditioning, hot water and I could also get a warm meal. And the best part is, I didn’t have to go to work that week. So, I decided to stay at the hotel for the entire week because my power company was not able to restore my electricity any sooner. That week was a great staycation. The hotel had great amenities and I was able to relax and forget about the storm for a bit. Anyway, after that experience, I have always booked a hotel room when we expect a major storm. It’s one way of guaranteeing that I will have air conditioning if my power goes out.
