Several medical conditions require air conditioning

In the heat of the Summer months, people with particular medical conditions need air conditioning in their homes and should stay indoors as much as possible.

Heat can aggravate migraines, autoimmune diseases, lung diseases, pregnancy, as well as rosacea.

Sometimes, however, migraine sufferers’ headache pain can be exacerbated by light. Dehydration can worsen migraines due to heat. Those suffering from migraines should stay indoors in the air conditioning, and if they are having a flare-up, they should sit in a dark, quiet room. When suffering from migraines, people who do not have central air conditioning may find it helpful to purchase portable air conditioners, which they can bring into dark rooms. UV light and heat from the sun aggravate autoimmune diseases like lupus and rheumatoid arthritis! Lupus and rheumatoid arthritis sufferers should avoid direct sunlight. During the Summer or when UV rays are the strongest, those with autoimmune diseases should stay inside in the air conditioning. COPD, for example, makes breathing difficult. It is even harder to breathe when the air is humid and stagnant. By removing humidity from the air and cooling it, air conditioning is helpful in this situation. Air conditioning is also recommended for pregnant women and those with rosacea during the hot summer months.
