That smell is terrible

I have a central Heating and A/C method and a garage that is linked to the house… I remembering making the decision to have the Heating and A/C and HVAC ducts extend to the garage.

It made sense at the time. I wanted to have heating in the garage for winter, however that way my husband can work on his car and our vehicles will be moderate when the people I was with and I jump in them for work. I also can work out in the garage over Summer and have quality cooling, however well I did not take into consideration that the garage is naturally a smelly locale and that the HVAC duct carries smells. The trash reeks in our garage. It does not matter if I cover it and use scented bags, but since garbage pick up is every 2 weeks, our trash gets to ferment. That gross garbage smell wafts up into the air vent in the garage. The smell then moves with the HVAC duct. The Heating and A/C turns on and the smelly air moves around the apartment room to room. Sometimes I can smell our garbage when I cook supper, go to bed or even take a shower. It is just horrible, then fixing the trash has not worked. So I assume I need to tackle the smell and HVAC duct, however my husband says the people I was with and I should just close off the HVAC duct so the smell can’t leak in the house. I assume an air purification method might be the answer. I could have the whole-apartment air purifier installed right into the furnace and air conditioning system system, and as the Heating and A/C works, so does the media air cleaner. The air would be cleaned as it moves around the house.
