We have been having all kinds of trouble with the heating and cooling in our great room.
It is a really large room and it is 3 stories, basically, because there is a huge loft that is open up at the top of it. It’s a beautiful room, and we love the way that it looks in the afternoon and the evening light. However, the light also ends up heating the room up like you wouldn’t believe. The room gets so hot in the afternoon and the evenings that none of us even want to spend any time in there at all. This is really unfortunate because it’s the only room in the house where all of us could sit together comfortably. Plus we really love the way that the room looks. It also has a wood burning fireplace in it so it’s a great place to go and sit in the evenings. However, during the summer, it’s just not comfortable because the air conditioning just won’t stay in the room. I know it has to do with the high ceilings, but it really seems like there should be something that we could do about it. I decided to call the local HVAC company to see what they had to say about it. It was interesting to talk to them because they had lots of ideas. I did not think that there was even anything that we could do about it, and it turned out that we had lots of options! We have just about decided that we are going to get something called a ductless mini split heating and cooling system to go in there. The HVAC technician that I talked to said that this would probably be our best bet.
