I finally made the decision to work from home permanently. Had you told me that I was going to do this like 3 years ago, I’d have thought you were mad. But that’s just sort of the way the whole thing shook out. Leaving the zone controlled HVAC of the office behind was one of several new normals to come out of the pandemic. When we first got word that the office with the delicious zone controlled HVAC would be closing, I was close to bereft. For one, I loved working in that zone controlled HVAC. It was so nice to be in a group of people who shared similar thermostat setting preferences. And I just liked working side by side with my colleagues. Plus, I knew that working from home inside my own air conditioning was going to be difficult. My husband was also having to work from home and the kids were schooling online during the pandemic. That’s not exactly an environment for focus. And I really need focus when I do my work because if I miss a little bit on one thing, it throws so much of the results off. So working from the air conditioning of home was not my first choice at all. That said, we figured it out the best we could. When my husband went back to his office, we bought a prefab shed for the backyard. Then, we got it wired for electricity and put a ductless heat pump in there for air conditioning. And I’m just done with the office downtown now.
