One thing about my job that I really don’t like doing is having to go out and do house calls.
- I’m an HVAC technician and I have been for the past ten years or so.
The way that my heating and cooling company does it is pretty fair to all of us HVAC techs. We never have to work two holidays in a row, because the lady who does the scheduling for us at the HVAC office really pays close attention to that kind of thing. But last year I ended up having the luck of the draw to have to work on Christmas and that was just terrible. The problem was that this lady’s heating system had gone out on her right in the middle of her annual Christmas party. She called the HVAC company to ask if they would send an HVAC specialist out right away to get the furnace back up and running again. So I took my HVAC truck and went out to her house in the snow. The weather was really cooling off outside at this point and I was afraid the roads were going to ice over. But at the house, this lady was freaking out about the lack of heating inside her house for her guests. I went in and checked out the heating system but there was no way that I could fix it without special ordering parts for the furnace. I told the lady it would take at least two days for the furnace parts to arrive and she was so angry that she basically kicked me out the door into the snow.
