When my furnace died, I was beside myself.
I knew that I couldn’t afford a furnace right away because I just didn’t have any money.
I was used to going without power because every time a storm blew through our area, trees were knocked down and they usually tore up the power lines. Going without heating or air conditioning because of lack of power was one thing. You knew that sooner or later the AC or heat was going to come back on. When the furnace is broken and you can’t afford to pay for a new one, you have know idea when or if you will get the heating turned back on. I was kind of lucky because I had a fireplace in my house. I couldn’t go without any heating or I would freeze to death. On the other hand, I didn’t want to use the fireplace and let it burn while I was in bed or away from the house. I would get the fireplace burning brightly and then I would allow it to go out before I left the house or went to bed. I ended up with my pipes coming close to freezing, a couple of times. You have no idea how happy I was when I could finally afford my new furnace. Not only do I have excellent heating, but it is running so much more efficient than the old gas furnace. I no longer need to worry about poor heating or frozen pipes. I don’t know what I would have done if my pipes had frozen because of a badly cared for fireplace.
