My power company suggested I get a smart thermostat

Now that I am using my air conditioner more than before, my power company keeps emailing me energy saving tips.

There has obviously been a spike in my energy consumption and that’s purely because I barely use my central heating during the colder months.

In fact, last Winter, I turned on my central heating once for the entire season and that was because the temperatures dropped below freezing. Typically, I would use a space heater in my bedroom just to warm it up before I go to sleep. Personally, I don’t like using the central heating because it dries out my skin and it’s just uncomfortable when my house is warmer than 70 degrees. During the Winter, the temperature on my thermostat barely drops below 60 degrees. So, I don’t use my central heating because 60 degrees is the perfect sleeping temperature. But I digress. My power company provided me with tips on how to save energy and most of them included ways on how to use my HVAC unit in a more energy efficient way. The power company suggested turning my thermostat up to 78 degrees, changing my HVAC air filter, and they have also suggested investing in a smart or a programmable thermostat. Based on the email, the smart thermostat can save up to 15-20% on my energy bill. I believe I do a great job at conserving as much energy as possible. Plus, I change my filter regularly, but I am yet to invest in a smart or programmable thermostat. I will consider investing in a smart thermostat, especially if I can save up to 20% on my energy bill.
