Replacing an HVAC unit can be a financial burden

A broken HVAC unit is never a cost that homeowners look forward to paying

Currently, there is a program in the state that I live in that is offering up to $15,000 to replace old HVAC units. The program is for low-income families with a broken unit who can’t afford to replace it on their own. I love that the program will help those families in need, but there are other folks who wouldn’t be able to come up with $10,000 or more if their HVAC unit broke down today. Personally, I know a handful of people who would have no issues purchasing a new HVAC unit for their homes. But on the other hand, purchasing a new HVAC unit would present a financial burden for most of my friends and family. And by no means are they living at or below the poverty level. The price of everything is just out of control and most people don’t have extra money like they once did. For instance, my brother and his wife both work great jobs, but when their HVAC needed to be replaced, they had 2 options. They could finance the new unit, or they could use the equity from their home to pay for the HVAC system. In the end, they decided to use the equity from their home because it created less of a financial burden for them. A broken HVAC unit is never a cost that homeowners look forward to paying. And it can create financial stress for many of them. I am glad that there are programs available for lower income families that need the help the most because I don’t know if they would be able to replace their HVAC unit any other way.
