A bit hasty on picking a fireplace

Sometimes it makes weird noises when heating

Buying a heating device is a major decision. It costs a whole bunch of money, takes up a lot of space and will be in the home for years. When my husband and I first moved into the home, there was a boiler system. The boiler was great at providing even heating throughout our giant house. It was old, rusted and on its last life though. When the time finally came, the two of us picked out a heater on a whim. We did no research or even consulted with the HVAC contractor. My husband and I landed on a gas fireplace since it was pretty and would look great in the living room. The fireplace is not good enough for our larger home. We had to purchase an electric heater for the upstairs since it was always freezing cold. The kitchen piping froze so many times that I finally bought a ventless gas heater for it. The gas fireplace can barely heat our living room. Yes, it does look great and like we are in a rustic cabin. The amount of heating it provides is pathetic. Additionally, the heater is always giving us trouble. I am frequently shoving my vacuum up inside the system to remove dust. My husband has changed the starter that hooks to our wireless thermostat almost every year. The heater sometimes won’t turn on or off. Sometimes it makes weird noises when heating. The two of us should have researched a little bit before choosing a heater. Now we are stuck with a faulty fireplace for another ten years.
