Significant temperature changes from the north to the south

I was anxious to move from my northern home, to the south.

I hadn’t given much thought to how much difference there would be in temperatures, except to note that the winters would not be cold and snowy.

I was getting tired of the cold winters and my old bones could no longer handle the snow shovelling and the brutal cold winds. Our summers were cool enough that I only needed to use the air conditioning a handful of times and then it was only in the heat of the afternoon. During winter, we had a fireplace to offset the furnace. Most of the time we could just get the fireplace burning, and our energy bills stayed fairly low during the winter. Moving to the south was a big change for me. I could no longer open the windows in the morning to catch the cool morning air. I had the AC unit running all day and all night. I wasn’t even sure if I was going to be able to afford to pay the energy bill, the AC unit was running so much. I think it would be ideal if I were able to live in the south in the winter and move up north during the summer, but that would be a lot of additional cost also. I would still need heat in my northern home during the winter, and the air conditioning would need to run in the south. When I finally got my energy bill, I was sure there had to be something wrong with the meter. It was just the amount of energy I used for AC and now I think I may just prefer to face the northern winter and forget about the south.
