Does an umbrella help to protect an HVAC unit?

With the price of everything going through the roof, most of us are trying to find ways to cut back on our expenses.

For instance, I decided to get rid of most of the memberships and subscriptions that I once had.

I have gotten rid of streaming services, yearly massage packages, online magazine subscriptions, and so much more. Every little bit counts, and you would be surprised at how much money these subscriptions amount to each year. I have also given up my daily coffee runs and now I make coffee at home, or I drink the free cup at work. That alone has saved me over $1,000 per year. While researching ways to save money in my home, I came across a newsfeed about using an umbrella to block the direct sunlight from the HVAC unit. I live in the Southern part of the country and some people believe that when the sun is blazing hot outside and it directly hits the outside HVAC condenser that it causes the unit to work that much harder. And if the unit is working harder, it means that they will be paying more money on their energy bill. So, using the umbrella would not only block the sun, but it would also save them money on utility bills. Unfortunately, this theory was proven to be false by a licensed HVAC provider who tested the HVAC unit performance with and without an umbrella. He found no significant change in the use of an umbrella. However, he did recommend frequent service as well as changing the air filter as the best way to save money on monthly energy bills.
