Do you need an HVAC service agreement?

With so many scams happening these days, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

For instance, when my HVAC provider approached me about signing up for their service maintenance agreement, I opted to do my research before I agreed to anything.

I understand that this is an extra service that the HVAC company would provide, but I am not sure if I need the extra service. Currently, I get my HVAC unit tuned-up at least once per year as recommended and I also change my air filters as often as possible. And my unit has not shown any signs of decline. In fact, it’s only 8 years old and I expect that with continued care, it will last for another 8 or so years. Most HVAC units will last between 10 to 15 years depending on use as well as how much care it receives. Anyway, I don’t believe that an HVAC service agreement is for everyone because it could end up costing more money in the long run. Currently, I am paying my HVAC provider once per year to get my unit serviced. I have never needed any additional maintenance or parts for my equipment over the years. Now, if my equipment was breaking down frequently or needed a tune-up more than once per year, then I would consider getting an HVAC service agreement. Also, if I just didn’t want to deal with worrying about HVAC maintenance or changing my filters or cleaning my vents, then I would get the agreement just to have the peace of mind knowing that my HVAC provider would take care of all of it for me. Getting an HVAC agreement might work for some but not for others depending on the situation.
