I’m conflicted as to whether I want a coffee table or not

Ok interior designers on the internet (or people who just happen to be good decorators) I need your help! I desperately need your help. I am trying to create the right “look” in my home and I’m not sure what I should do. Some background, my husband and I recently moved into a new home and we love it. We have been decorating slowly and everything is really starting to come together. We have been decorating the living room and, piece by piece, we have been getting the furniture where we like it. The living room is a very open space and, while our custom furniture looks great in that room, it is very spacious. The area in front of the couch over to the sectional is particularly empty. I thought a rug would look nice but I didn’t like it when I put down a towel for a visual. I am thinking about adding a coffee table in front of the custom couch, but I’m not sure if that’s a smart move. I don’t want the coffee table to have the appearance of floating in the middle of the floor. On the other hand, I think the floor plan might be a little too open without at least a coffee table to break up the space. Then again, I sort of like the open feel and don’t want to ruin the flow of the home by adding a coffee table where it doesn’t belong. Do you see my predicament? Well, that’s why I’m here. Coffee table or no coffee table? Let me know your thoughts!
